Personally, I have never been a huge supporter of PETA. They are fighting for a good cause but I don’t like how they approach things. They spend too much time and money creating artsy, satirical and sometimes horrid advertisements. Unfortunately PETA does not spend enough time working on and advertising some of the bigger issues in society today.
 
PETA stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. New information has been released about just how ethical they really are. They run a shelter at their Norfolk headquarters that has a shocking amount of animals that aren’t leaving there alive. PETA claims that they only euthanize the animals that are too sick or too dangerous to be placed into homes. They also state that it is unrealistic to expect them to find homes for all the animals that come into their shelter because of the excessive overpopulation of homeless animals.
 
It seems, however, that “PETA has no adoption hours, does no adoption promotion, (and) has no adoption floor.” PETA spends all the money that they could be spending on finding these dogs and cats homes on using scare tactics and publicity stunts to get people to join their cause. This is just so hypocritical and wrong. I believe in the ethical treatment of animals and this does not seem ethical to me.

As for the overpopulation of homeless animals; I ask you all to please spay/neuter all your pets. It actually helps with behavioural problems, gives them a better quality of life and helps prevent overpopulation.

Kim Johnson (Dancing with the Stars) does a sexy photo shoot for PETA to raise awareness of product testing on animals and makes the pledge to go cruelty free for her cosmetic products.

I personally use mostly all vegan cosmetic products because of some sketchy information I was given a few years back about the ingredients in some cosmetic products. I find it extremely interesting that a lot of celebs nowadays are supporting the vegan and vegetarian movement.

Kim also did a quick little behind the scenes video where she shares why she participated in this ad campaign. WARNING: There are some pictures that are sad and slightly disturbing.

DOGS FOR DINNER

These are some pictures that have been posted from the dog rescue in China at the beginning of March. They rescued 900 dogs from being sold to China`s slaughter houses, as most of you probably know by now. There is no denying that these pictures are heart wrenchingly sad. There is no need to treat animals like this. There is a lot of inhumanity happening with this issue but there are also a lot of double standards.

In the North American culture we consider dogs and cats to be pets and even a part of our own families. On the other hand; pigs, cows, chickens and other farm animals are deemed to be our source of food. This is the where the double standard comes into play. We get mad at places like China who do not have the capability to support these `farm animals` for their food source. However, they have an over population of dogs and cats which they use as their source of protein. Some places, like China, see dogs and cats the same way we see a cow or a chicken.  As food.

We call it inhumane, but how are we doing anything any different here in North America? We can try to reason for animal rights in China all we want but maybe we should start by looking out our own back door. 

We cannot expect other cultures to give up their protein source nor should they expect the same from us. I have never pushed my lifestyle choice on anyone else. It has affected the people around me but I do not expect them to change who they are for me. But, in all honesty, the only way to stop all of the animal cruelty is to stop supporting the meat industry. Unfortunately, this will never happen.
